Meet the Principal

Principal

Mr Ian Wake

Ian Wake began his teaching career in 1991 and joined St Paul’s as Principal in 2016. With a deep passion for teaching and leadership, Mr Wake finds immense joy in witnessing young people develop new skills and achieve goals they once thought were unattainable. Those “lightbulb moments” in the classroom are among his greatest joys.

Mr Wake views his role in education as a privilege, to journey alongside young people as they grow into adults and to build meaningful relationships with students and their families. He finds it incredibly rewarding to encourage students to flourish and grow in confidence.

As a science teacher, Mr Wake is fascinated by the subject and enjoys helping students gain confidence in their studies of it. He is dedicated to creating an environment where students can thrive and feel empowered.

Mr Wake values the focus on understanding the underlying philosophy of learning at St Paul’s, rather than just memorising information. He appreciates the International Baccalaureate programme for its emphasis on critical thinking and discernment in learning.

Being part of a faith-based school, Mr Wake is committed to presenting a Christian worldview and encouraging students to critically analyse and engage with it. He believes in an invitational philosophy, guiding students to make their own informed decisions about their beliefs.
